Meta AI Now Analyses Your Ad Campaigns — What Australian SMBs Should Know
Meta has rolled out a new AI-powered assistant that lets small business owners connect their Facebook and Instagram analytics, Meta Ads data, and Google Workspace accounts directly into Meta AI. Ask it a question about your ad performance, and it’ll give you a plain-English answer with suggestions.
The tool can analyse campaign metrics, flag creative fatigue, compare your performance against similar businesses, and generate reports and spreadsheets. Meta also launched a standalone Mac desktop app with screen sharing, so the AI can see what you’re working on and respond in context.
It’s genuinely useful functionality, and it’s free to start. But there’s a catch worth paying attention to.
Your business data now flows through Meta’s AI
When you connect your ad accounts and Google Workspace, you’re handing Meta detailed information about your campaigns, your customers’ behaviour, your internal documents and your competitive positioning. Meta’s track record on data use isn’t exactly reassuring — and the company has already flagged that advanced features will eventually sit behind a paid Meta One subscription.
For Australian businesses, this matters more than it might seem. If you’re in a regulated sector — financial services, health, or even hospitality handling guest data — feeding business information into a third-party AI system without a clear data processing agreement is a compliance risk. Even outside regulated verticals, it’s worth asking: what does Meta do with the business intelligence it collects through these tools?
What to do
Before connecting anything, read the terms. Understand what data Meta retains and how it’s used. If you do try it, start with a test account — don’t plug your primary business data in on day one.
AI-powered business tools are getting genuinely good. But “free” doesn’t mean “no cost.” The cost here might just be your data.
