Apple announced Apple Business this week, an all-in-one platform that rolls device management, business email, and brand tools into a single free service. It launches April 14 in over 200 countries — including Australia — and replaces Apple Business Essentials, Apple Business Manager, and Apple Business Connect, as reported by Apple.
The headline feature for Australian SMBs is built-in mobile device management at no cost. That includes zero-touch deployment (new devices arrive pre-configured), managed Apple accounts, app distribution, and security policy enforcement. Apple is also adding hosted business email with custom domain support, putting it in direct competition with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. Extra iCloud storage starts at $0.99 per user per month, and AppleCare+ for Business runs from $6.99 per device per month.
If your organisation runs mostly Apple hardware, this is worth a serious look. Free MDM alone could save hundreds per year on third-party management tools. But don’t rush to migrate — check whether your existing workflows, integrations, and compliance requirements (especially around data residency) are covered first. Apple Business integrates with Microsoft Entra ID and Google Workspace, so hybrid setups are possible. Talk to your IT provider about whether it fits alongside your current stack or could replace parts of it.
